Ministry Partners
We support several organizations that provide important social services in our communities. Click on the links below for even more information.
The Edmonds Youth Resource Centre
The Edmonds Youth Resource Centre is a drop-in centre that provides a safe space for at-risk youth, ages 13 to 18. Youth can access clothing, personal hygiene products, hot meals, one-to-one support, crisis intervention, information, advocacy, and referral. Open during the evenings, Wednesday to Friday; call for details. 7443 Edmonds Street. 604-522-2327
First United Church
Inspired by the Christian gospel, which nurtures, empowers and liberates, First United Church is an inner city ministry of the United Church of Canada. Called by the Spirit to be a part of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver this ministry: affirms the worth of individuals, empowers communities, and works for social justice. Deer Lake continues to be a drop off depot for First United (9 am to 1 pm Tuesday to Friday). Of special need continues to be men’s clothing, socks, footwear, blankets and sleeping bags.
The Marguerite Dixon Transition Society
The Marguerite Dixon Transition Society had its genesis over 25 years ago in our church basement. Wenda Erickson, a psychiatric nurse and member of the church, raised the church’s awareness to the needs of women and their families fleeing abusive homes. This ministry began providing support and resources out of our little church and has now grown significantly. Marguerie Dixon House is now located in the Burnaby neighbourhood and provides safe, secure, temporary accommodation for women and their children who are fleeing abuse. They offer support, information, and referrals. The church continues to be a drop-off site (9 am to 1 pm Tuesday to Friday) to receive your donations of toys, clothing, and household items.
Community Involvement Continues…
Deer Lake United Church continues to be involved in a variety of important community partnerships and initiatives including the “Extreme Weather Strategy for Homeless, the Burnaby Homeless Shelter Initiative, and the Burnaby Mosque development.
