The Worship Service - Every Sunday at 10:30 AM
People are involved in the service in a number of ways, such as lighting the candles, reading the Scriptures, operating the projector, bringing in a floral arrangement, or helping to write the prayers. Sign up sheets are on bulletin boards in the Hall. The bullets below will help you know ‘what to expect’ during the service:
· The printed bulletin lists the order of the service, some of which is also shown on the overhead projector.
· The Sunday Worship starts at 10:30 am and is usually about one hour 15 minutes
· Bold type indicates where the congregation joins in.
· Candles are lit at the beginning of the service, representing God’s guiding light in the world. You are encouraged to find where God’s light shone in your life this week.
· Announcements are encouraged as part of our worship and work in the church.
· Announcements about church and related community events and activities can be submitted to the church office and are printed at the back of the bulletin
· Bible readings are often based on the Lectionary, a schedule of readings chosen by the World Council of Churches and used by many churches worldwide that covers most of the Bible on a three year cycle.
· The words to the hymns are projected on the screen, and hymn books with the music are in the racks on the seatbacks
· The Choir sings an anthem in most Sunday Services.
· Children participate in the service until after the minister’s time with them (Time 4 the Young @ Heart) and then go with their teachers for Sunday School or Nursery
· Prayers of the people are written by a group from the congregation, and a request for prayers may be written Sunday mornings on the indicated forms in the narthex (entrance area) which are then placed in the box provided.
· Communion occurs about once a month. Everyone is welcome to take part, including the children, who come from Sunday School just before it begins. We use grape juice, not wine. People can go to the front and be served a piece of bread, which they dip in the cup of grape juice, or they can go to the back , where they will be served a small piece of bread and a small cup of juice to drink. Those who have difficulty walking may request to have it served to them in their seat by raising their hand.
· Baptism and Receiving of new members occur periodically during a regular service. This is arranged with the minister.
